COURSE DESCRIPTION


B.A. L.L.B. (Hons) or Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Legislative Law Honours is an undergraduate Administrative Law professional integrated course. During the course main focus of study is given on Law with specialization in any one subject, along with Arts being the secondary study course. B.A. provides a course of study in general knowledge and intellectual skills. As of Law, it is a set of categorized rules and regulations under which any society or country is governed. By Honours, it is meant that it is a Higher Academic Standard Course as it requires in-depth study of any of the subjects matter. It is ranked above the Simple, Pass, General or Ordinary Bachelors course. B.A. L.L.B. (Hons.) is five years course. It is called an Integrated Course because its course curriculum covers the study of Arts subjects like History, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, etc along with the in-depth study of law and legislature. It is also referred as BA (LLB) (Hons.). The integrated degree course covers the study of various specialized fields of law namely Administrative Law, International Law, Labour Laws, Tax Laws, Corporate Laws, Civil law, Criminal law, Patent law, etc. The B.A. L.L.B. (Hons.) course study is not restricted to the conventional class-room teaching only but it also includes case studies, mock court drills etc. to make the study more practical and interesting. The legal education apex body in India is the Bar Council of India. This Bar Council monitors and regulates the system of legal education in India. All fresh law graduates or those who have already cleared their law graduation but have not yet enrolled with the bar council must clear a bar examination (All India Bar Examination) to be entitled to practice before courts or tribunals in India. The process of enrolment confers a license to the holder to practice before any court in India and give legal advice. The entire procedure of enrolment and post-enrolment professional conduct is regulated and supervised by the Bar Council of India.


B.A. L.L.B. (Hons.) Eligibility

  • The basic eligibility criteria for pursuing a B.A. L.L.B. Honours Course is Pass in the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) system or an equivalent examination aggregate not less than 50% of the total marks. The Eligibility condition for admission of students under the Foreign Nationals Category shall be 65% marks in the Higher Secondary School Examination of (10+2) system or an equivalent examination. This criterion may from one institute to another.
  • Admission to the First Year of the 5-Year B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) Degree Program is made strictly on merit, based on the All India Entrance Examination.
  • Candidates need to secure minimum of 40% (30% for SC and ST candidates) of the total marks in the All India Entrance Test to become eligible for the admission. The University has a right to keep the seats vacant if there are no candidates who secured minimum cut off marks.
  • Age should not be less than 21 years of age on the first day of July of the year of admission. However, in cases of SC or ST candidates the maximum age limit shall be 23 years. Age limit is subject to change and could be varied as per an institute’s rules and regulations.
  • Candidates awaiting results of the qualifying examination can also appear for the test on condition that they produce proof of having passed the qualifying examination with the prescribed marks at the time of interview.
  • Candidates whose statement of marks of the qualifying examination is not available at the time of the interview are not eligible for admission.
  • Candidates who get compartment in any subject in the qualifying examination are not eligible for admission in that year.
  • The admission of foreign nationals however, shall be made based on satisfying the prescribed academic qualifications. They are exempted from taking the admission test. The other rules regarding the eligibility for admission will be applicable as applicable to other candidates.
  • Most of the institutes reserve a certain number of seats for foreign candidates.
  • Certain number of seats is also reserved for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes, along with reservation for Persons with Disability.

B.A. L.L.B. (Hons.) Course Suitability

  • Those who want to go for jobs in Central Services such as Indian Legal Services through Union Public service Commission (UPSC) on grounds of their experience in the field and also in State Legal Services through State Public service Commission (SPSC) exams also are good match for the course.
