COURSE DESCRIPTION


M.Sc. Biotechnology or Master of Science in Biotechnology is a postgraduate Biotechnology course. Biotechnology is a field of applied biology that involves the use of living organisms and bioprocesses in engineering, technology, medicine and other fields requiring bio products. It aims to deliver high quality courses with strong vocational elements and professional skills development embedded across the curriculum. It, also, aims at training manpower in the thrust areas of Biotechnology such as Molecular Biology, Genetic Engineering, Agricultural Biotechnology, Applied Microbiology, Bioinformatics and Bioprocess Technology. More clearly, Biotechnology is a field of applied biology that involves the use of living organisms and bioprocesses in engineering, technology, medicine and other fields requiring bio-products. Biotechnology also utilizes these products for manufacturing purpose. The duration of M.Sc. (Biotechnology) is two years and the syllabus is divided into four semesters.


M.Sc. Biotechnology Eligibility

  • Graduation with any of the Life Sciences subjects (Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry), B.Sc. Agricultural Sciences.
  • The students must have secured at least 55% marks in qualifying examination from a recognized University or Institution.
  • Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination can also apply subject to their passing the examination before the admissions are finalized.

M.Sc. Biotechnology Course Suitability

  • Communication skills are the most crucial factor for this course. Therefore candidates having command over these can go for this course.
  • Second, who have other talents like basic lab skills, equipment, manufacturing and production, care for research animals or plants and greenhouse/growth chamber also are good suit for this course.
  • They should have the ability to work independently, the ability to use computers, certain skills of problem solving, information technology skill, analyzing and interpreting skills.
  • They should be able to understand the technical vocabulary of their positions and be able to understand the protocols their jobs require.

  • Biotechnology is a rapid growing field having great scope in future. The biotechnology careers can be found with pharmaceutical companies, food manufacturing and processing industries, public funded laboratories, chemical, agriculture, environment control, waste management, energy, and allied industries.
  • Biotechnologists can be employed in the areas of planning, production and management of bio-processing industries.
  • The biotechnology work scope can be seen in various fields such as research, sales, marketing, administration, quality control, breeders, technical support etc.
  • Candidates can become a Research Associate which provides an interesting career that allows them to carry out experiments under the instruction of established Scientists.
