COURSE DESCRIPTION

M.Sc. Nanotechnology or Master of Science in Nanotechnology is a postgraduate Nanotechnology course. Nanotechnology is the study of manipulating matter on an atomic and molecular scale. Generally, Nanotechnology deals with structures sized between 1 to 100 nanometres in at least one dimension and involves developing materials or devices possessing at least one dimension within that size. The duration of M.Sc. (Nanotechnology) is mostly of two academic years but it varies from institute to institute. The Sardar Patel University is providing in two years and the minimum time to complete the course is also two years. Course is available both in full time and part time basis (correspondence). The course is an important and career orienting one which opens many jobs for the students after its completion.

M.Sc. Nanotechnology Eligibility

  • B.Sc. (Physics/Chemistry/Maths) with one of the subjects as principal & other two as subsidiary or B.Sc. (Ind. Chem.) with Maths, Physics subsidiary or B.E. (Chemical/Metallurgy) with minimum 45%.
  • The admission criteria for the course may vary from university to university. In various colleges and universities there is an entrance exam for admission of the course.

M.Sc. Nanotechnology Course Suitability

  • Who have good background of physics and chemistry, scientific bent of mind, sound analytical skills and a natural tendency for research work are the most suitable for it.
  • Second, applicants possessing skills like mathematics and computer programming also are good suit for the course.
  • Third, those who can do adequate lab work and can handle applications of varied fields including bioscience, medical science, environment, electronics, security and others.
  • They should have good communication and interpersonal skills required for the course.

How is M.Sc. Nanotechnology Course Beneficial?

  •  Job opportunities for nano-technologists exist in nano- medicine, bio- informatics, stem cell development, genomics, forensic science, pharmaceutical companies, nano toxicology and nano power generating sectors.
  • An individual can work as applications engineer, industry analyst, energy harvesting technology specialist, power system specifiers, nano lithographer.
  • One can also work as a senior process engineer using MEMS inertial instruments or synthetic chemist in the semiconductor realm. He or she can conduct researches on nano- technological fabriction , genetics and nano-medicine segment, nano- tubes, nano- crystalline materials and nano -software in the Indian Institute of Technology ,Roorkee. The companies which are providing scopes for job prospects in India are Cranes Software International, Monad Nanotech, Velbionanotech, Innovations Unified Technology, Qtech nanosystem, Naga nanotech, Tash nanotech, etc.
