COURSE DESCRIPTION


B.A. Hons. Social Work or Bachelor of Arts Honours in Social Work is an undergraduate Social Work course. By Honours it is meant that it is a Higher Academic Standard Course as it requires in-depth study of the subject matter. Honours graduation is ranked above the simple, pass, general or ordinary Bachelors course. It is practice-based course encompassing the understanding of various theories of social work. Social Work refers to various services designed to aid and increase the welfare of the poor, aged and needy. B.A. (Hons) Social Work is of three years duration with six semesters and the maximum duration of completing this course is six years. The period of duration and semesters may vary as per the institute’s policy and the medium of instruction is mostly English and/or Hindi. Social work course imparts the education on the values of Social Work and consciously applying these in practice.


B.A. Hons. Social Work Eligibility

  • The applicants who have appeared in their Higher Secondary Examination, 10+2 or its equivalent (HSC/PUC/Pre-Degree) with minimum aggregate marks of 50% (40% for SCs/STs).
  • The percentage requirement may vary depending on the institute.
  • Students with a background in social work, psychology, social science, sociology or any other related fields will get preference over others.
  • The applicants who are awaiting their results will also be eligible to apply. In such cases, admission to programme shall be provisional. If a provisionally admitted student fails in the Higher Secondary Examination, 10+2 or its equivalent (HSC/PUC/Pre-Degree) course or secures less than required marks, the offer of provisional admission will be automatically cancelled.
  • Certain number of seats is reserved for candidates with disability - (a) Low Vision/Blindness, (b) Hearing impairment, and (c) Locomotors Disability/Celebral Palsy.

B.A. Hons. Social Work Course Suitability

  • This course is mostly suited to people who want to bring a change in the society through Social Work which may include helping the repressed and the underprivileged.
  • They should have good communication skills as they should deal with different types of personalities in their course of action.

  • Social Work Degree provides qualification for employment with many Human Service Providing Agencies.
  • One can pursue postgraduate degree in the subject with various specializations.
  • B.A. with Honours in Social Work an unconventional course and as such is especially meant for those who have capability of working hard under precarious working conditions. Social Work Careers are available for Social Workers in private as well as public sector companies. Social workers can easily get jobs as counsellors in healthcare, adoption, environmental protection, community policing etc.
  • This Course enables one to become a Social worker who can help people suffering from homelessness, poverty, violence, abuses and diseases like cancer, AIDS etc.
