COURSE DESCRIPTION


Bachelor of Fashion Design or Bachelor of Fashion Designing is an undergraduate Fashion Designing course. Fashion design is the art of using fabrics, colours and ornamentation to craft different fashion items like clothing, textiles, jewellery, footwear and other accessories. Bachelor in Fashion Designing course involves imparting technical and professional knowledge of various aspects of Fashion World like fashion drawing, costume design, fashion history, sewing, concepts, trends, business communication etc. Bachelor in Fashion Design course also provides the students the skill of imagination, visual sensibility, artistic talent, global vision of design, creativity and market trends. Fashion designers study trends, decide themes, create designs using computer-aided programs, select fabrics, colours and styles, create prototypes, present concepts, and eventually oversee final productions. Also known as BFD, its duration varies depending on the institute. While some institute’s offer it as a 3 years course and others offer it as a 4 years course. The term B.F.D. is also used for abbreviating B.A. (Fashion Design) whose duration and curricula may vary so it is better that one should confirm from the concerned authorities as to exactly which course are they going to pursue.


BFD Eligibility

  • Those who have completed the 10+2 or its equivalent exam from any disciplines having 50% marks can apply for the bachelor’s course of 3 years in Fashion Designing
  • Some institutes conduct an aptitude test for admission.
