B.E. (Hons.) Civil Engineering or Bachelor of Engineering in Hons. Civil Engineering is an undergraduate Civil Engineering course. B.E. (Hons.) Civil Engineering is four-year program and the course deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of structures and works like bridges, tunnels, canals, buildings, airports, water works, sewage systems, highways & rail-roads, water-ways & canals, dams & power houses, water treatment & sewage disposal system, ports, docks & harbours, etc while protecting the public and environmental health, as well as improving the existing infrastructures. B.E. Hons. (Civil Engineering) degree makes a student well capable and responsible for planning and designing a project, constructing the project to the required scale, and maintenance of the project.

B.E. (Hons.) Civil Engineering Eligibility

• The basic eligibility criteria for pursuing a B.E. Hons. (Civil Engineering) degree is qualifying 10+2 or equivalent examination, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with a reasonably high percentage of marks in the aggregate and clearing the different national and state level entrance exams such as All India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE), Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test (BITSAT) etc, conducted by different universities and colleges across the country.
• Selection to the B.E. Hons. (Civil Engineering) degree course is based on marks secured in the final merit i.e. total marks aggregated in the final exams of 10+2 and the entrance exams.
• A Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) is conducted by Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in the country. The entrance to the IITs can be secured only after clearing this JEE.
• An examination is also conducted by the Associate Membership of the Institute of Engineers (AMIE), which enables working people in the private/public sector and diploma holders to acquire a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering through distance education. The degree awarded is considered equivalent to a regular B.E. Hons. (Civil Engineering) degree.

B.E. (Hons.) Civil Engineering Course Suitability

Candidates who have creativity and an innovative approach to solving problems; the ability to analyse and interpret diverse, complex data; critical thinking and the ability to evaluate designs, plans and projects; effective assessment and management of risk, resources and time are the most suitable ones for it. Second, who have highly developed numeracy and computer literacy; interpersonal sensitivity, persuasiveness and the ability to work as part of a team; clear written and oral communication skills; awareness of ethical issues and the wider impact of your work. Candidates willing of having Master degree and then for further research work also are good match for it.

Degree holders can find employment as a supervisor on a construction site as well a managerial position or also a position in design. Candidates can also engage themselves in research as well as teaching faculty in government and private services and institutes. The above degree holders can also work as independent consultants. Civil engineers are employed in all the major construction projects carried out by the state or central government, the railways, private construction companies, military, engineering services, consultancy services etc.
