COURSE DESCRIPTION

B.Sc. (Hons.) Biochemistry or Bachelor of Science Honours in Biochemistry is undergraduate Biochemistry course. Biochemistry is a branch of chemistry that deals with plant and animals and their life processes. Course offers the student an interdisciplinary study of chemistry, biology, mathematics and physics. It provides an excellent preparation for all graduate work/research in biochemistry and the molecular sciences, and professional areas leading into the health sciences. Use of free electives also enables the student to achieve considerable knowledge of other disciplines such as chemical and bio molecular engineering, bioinformatics (computing), biomedical engineering, and biology. The biochemistry curriculum enables majors who are interested in medical, dental, or law school to meet admission requirements of these schools.

B.Sc. (Hons.) Biochemistry Eligibility

  • 10+2 with science or its equivalent with a minimum aggregate of 50%
  • Some of the reputed institutes conduct entrance examination for admission.

B.Sc. (Hons.) Biochemistry Course Suitability

  • It is suitable for those students who have a strong background in plant biochemistry, and also suitable for students who wish to pursue a career in enology, viticulture, plant science, and food science.
  • They should have communicating and writing skills which are appropriate for the course.
  • They should be able to identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  •  Applicants should also possess skills like using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

How is B.Sc. (Hons.) Biochemistry Course Beneficial?

  • It is beneficial for those students who intend to pursue careers in research institutions, medical laboratories, food beverages and quality assurance industries, academia, pharmaceutical companies, nutritional counselling and self-employment in a biochemical/biotechnological entrepreneurship.
  • Also beneficial for higher studies such as M.Sc., M.Tech., postgraduate diplomas and MBA, M.Phil. and Ph.D.
  • Medical option takes students into the medical aspects of biochemistry, including pharmacology, medical microbiology and virology, and the biochemical basis of disease.
  • After passing the course they can study chemical composition of living things, analyze the complex chemical combinations and reactions involved in metabolism, reproduction, growth, and heredity.
