COURSE DESCRIPTION

B.Sc. (Hons.) Bioinformatics or Bachelor of Science Honours in Bioinformatics is an undergraduate Bioinformatics course. Bioinformatics is the application of statistics and computer sciences to the field of molecular biology. The primary goal of bioinformatics is to increase the understanding of biological processes, however, is its focus on developing and applying computationally intensive techniques e.g., pattern recognition, data mining, machine learning algorithms, and visualization to achieve this goal. Major research efforts in the field include sequence alignment, gene finding, genome assembly, drug design, drug discovery, protein structure alignment, protein structure prediction, prediction of gene expression and protein–protein interactions, genome-wide association studies and the modelling of evolution.

B.Sc. (Hons.) Bioinformatics Eligibility

  • The minimum eligibility for this course is an intermediate (10+2) in science.

B.Sc. (Hons.) Bioinformatics Course Suitability

  • Candidates should be known with Computer Programming Language like C/C++, Perl or Python, Java and HTML; as it is useful during study.
  • They should be able to capture, curate and present the data in a format that will allow scientists to extract value from the underlying information.
  • They should be hard worker, can work for long hours and have humane in nature.
  • One can find work in Pharmaceutical and Biotech Companies where bioinformatics technologies are applied throughout the drug discovery process.

How is B.Sc. (Hons.) Bioinformatics Course Beneficial?

  • After completing the course, they can go for sequence assembly, database design and maintenance, sequence analysis, proteomics, pharmacogenomics, pharma-cology, clinical pharmacologist, informatics developer; Computational chemist, Bio-analytics and Analytics etc.
  • They can also find work in Pharmaceutical and Biotech Companies where bioinformatics technologies are applied throughout the drug discovery process.
  • Candidates have also the option of take up teaching jobs in public institutions if you have a skill in teaching.
  • Other areas where they can go are Indian companies like Satyam, Wipro, TCS, Reliance etc. and companies such as Silicon Genetics, Accelrys and IBM Life Sciences Pubgene, Tessella.
