COURSE DESCRIPTION


B.Sc. (Hons.) Botany or Bachelor of Science Honours in Botany is an undergraduate Botany course. Botany is the science which treats of the structure of plants, the functions of their parts, their places of growth, their classification, and the terms which are employed in their description and denomination. B.Sc. (Hons.) Botany degree course includes the study of the structure, growth, development, and metabolism of a wide range of biological disciplines, including plants, algae and fungi. The Botany Honours course provides a complete training in plant forms, geographical distribution and taxonomy of flora, cytogenetic, molecular genetics, bio-technology and cell/seed biology, with special reference to Indian ecology, environment, commodities and forestry. B.Sc. (Hons.) Botany is a three years degree course and it is career orienting in nature that opens a lot jobs for the candidates and the course is being provided by many colleges / universities in the country.


B.Sc. (Hons.) Botany Eligibility

  • The basic eligibility criterion for pursuing B.Sc. (Hons.) (Botany) degree is qualifying 10+2 or equivalent examination in Science stream with a minimum of 50% marks secured in Biology subject and/or in aggregate from a recognized board of the country.
  • Also, some renowned colleges and institutes do conduct entrance examination to get admission to their B.Sc. (Hons.) (Botany) degree course. Selection to the degree course in these colleges is based on marks secured in the final merit i.e. total marks aggregated in the final exams of 10+2 and the entrance exam.

B.Sc. (Hons.) Botany Course Suitability

  • They should have clear and concise verbal and written communication skills, a high level of curiosity about the world around them, be creative in solving problems and good understanding of the scientific method and research.
  • Candidates should be detail oriented in their work, good interpersonal skills, and mental stamina to work for long hours.
  • Other qualities they should possess are the ability to work with microscopes as most of their work is in laboratory.
  • Computer skills are also essential part to be in these scientific studies and their mind should be so innovative that is looking for new findings in plant science thoroughly.
