COURSE DESCRIPTION


B.Sc. (Hons.) Chemistry or Bachelor of Science Honours in Chemistry is an undergraduate Chemistry course. Chemistry is the science of the composition, structure, properties, and reactions of matter, especially of atomic and molecular systems. During the program, it is taken up the study of various theories of chemistry and its branches, including physical chemistry, environmental chemistry, inorganic and organic chemistry, etc. in addition to study of the normal Bachelor of Science subjects like Mathematics, Physics and Computer Applications, too. B.Sc. (Hons.) (Chemistry) degree course also includes the study of atomic structure, chemical bonding, thermodynamics, chemistry of various elements, classes of organic compounds, electrochemistry, coordination chemistry, quantum mechanics, spectroscopy, computer applications in chemistry, method of chemical analysis, environmental and biochemistry, etc. The degree is three years of duration and also course syllabus (Theory plus Practical) is divided into three years. After completing the course candidates have a lot of career opportunities in different spheres.


B.Sc. (Hons.) Chemistry Eligibility

  • The basic eligibility criterion for pursuing B.Sc. (Hons.) (Chemistry) degree is qualifying 10+2 or equivalent examination in Science stream with a minimum of 50% marks secured in Chemistry subject and/or in aggregate from a recognized board of the country.
  • Also, some reputed colleges and institutes do conduct entrance examination to get admission to their B.Sc. (Hons.) (Chemistry) degree course. Selection to the degree course in these colleges is based on marks secured in the final merit i.e. total marks aggregated in the final exams of 10+2 and the entrance exam.

B.Sc. (Hons.) Chemistry Course Suitability

  • Applicants should have analytical and problem-solving mind, examining and interpreting results and making evaluations based on limited information are the most suitable for it.
  • They should also have the qualities like time management and organization, planning and executing experiments, undertaking individual and team project work and completing your dissertation.
  • Other skills are written and oral communication, monitoring the situation attentively, teamwork and good knowledge of computer.
  • Candidates who have planned for studying further such as for Master’s degree and then for research work also are good suit for this course.

  • B.Sc. (Hons.) (Chemistry) degree serves as a basis for further higher studies in this field such as M.Sc., Ph.D. and M.Phil. Degree in Chemistry, the successful completion of which makes one eligible for the post of a lecturer in any university/college.
  • B.Sc. (Hons.) (Chemistry) degree holders have plenty of opportunities in the field of Research and Development (R&D), Oil, Pharmaceuticals and Chemical industries, Public Health and Environmental Protection Sectors, Clinical Research, etc.
  • They can become private teacher in schools and after having Master’s degree plus other qualifications like B.Ed. and NET; can go for permanent lecturer in colleges and universities.
  • They are also employed in government civilian and military research laboratories.
