COURSE DESCRIPTION

B.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics or Bachelor of Science Honours in Mathematics is an undergraduate Mathematics course. Mathematics is the study of quantity, structure, space, and change. B.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics program provides in-depth knowledge about geometry, trigonometry, calculus and various other theories in Mathematics or related disciplines, such as computer science or statistics in addition to study of the normal Bachelor of Science subjects like Physics and Chemistry. The duration of the course is three years and the syllabus for the course is divided into six semesters. This Mathematics Honours course is an important and valuable one that provides opportunities to the candidates of taking some of the subjects of Master’s degree. After completing the course, they can go for many fields to obtain jobs. The course is being offered by many colleges/universities in off and on campuses throughout the country.

B.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics Eligibility

  • The basic eligibility criterion for pursuing B.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics degree is qualifying 10+2 or equivalent examination in Science stream with a minimum of 50% marks secured in Mathematics subject and/or in aggregate from a recognized board of the country.
  • Also, some reputed colleges and institutes do conduct entrance examination to get admission to their B.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics degree course. Selection to the degree course in these colleges is based on marks secured in the final merit i.e. total marks aggregated in the final exams of 10+2 and the entrance exam.

B.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics Course Suitability

  • Candidates who have skills like analysing and interpreting the resultant data, finding patterns and drawing conclusions; designing and conducting observational and experimental studies and good knowledge of computer applications to support the subjects.
  • The other essential thing is the ability to approach problems in an analytical and rigorous way and to formulate theories and apply them to solve problems.
  • He should be able to present mathematical arguments and conclusions with accuracy and clarity; advanced numeracy skills and the ability to handle and analyse large quantities of data.

How is B.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics Course Beneficial?

  • B.Sc. (Hons.) (Mathematics) degree serves as a basis for further higher studies in this field such as M.Sc., Ph.D. and M.Phil. Degree in Mathematics, the successful completion of which makes one eligible for the post of a lecturer in any university/college.
  • B.Sc. (Hons.) (Mathematics) degree is very helpful in attaining other degrees in accounting and statistics, such as ICWA, etc. After completing B.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics, one can do post-graduation in Mathematics/Applied Mathematics/Statistics/Actuarial Science/Astronomy/MCA/MBA/CA/CS and in a few more fields.
  • After successfully completing B.Sc. (Hons.) (Mathematics) degree course, many job opportunities open in statistics, actuarial sciences, mathematical modelling, cryptography, computer sciences, etc.
