COURSE DESCRIPTION

B.Sc. (Hons.) Physics or Bachelor of Science Honours in Physics is an undergraduate Physics course. Physics is the study of the natural and fundamental science called Physics that involves the study of matter and its motion through space & time, as well as all applicable concepts, such as energy and force in addition to study of the normal Bachelor of Science subjects like Mathematics and Chemistry. B.Sc. (Hons.) Physics degree course covers the study of a wide range of phenomena, from the smallest sub-atomic particles (such as quarks, neutrinos and electrons), to the largest galaxies. It also includes the study of topics such as Physics of Materials, Statistical Physics, Mathematical Physics, Vibrations and Wave Optics apart from various Physics practical. The duration of the course is three years and the syllabus for the course is also divided into three years.

B.Sc. (Hons.) Physics Eligibility

  • The basic eligibility criterion for pursuing B.Sc. (Hons.) (Physics) degree is qualifying 10+2 or equivalent examination in Science stream with a minimum of 50% marks secured in Physics subject and/or in aggregate from a recognized board of the country.
  • Also, some reputed colleges and institutes do conduct entrance examination to get admission to their B.Sc. (Hons.) (Physics) degree course. Selection to the degree course in these colleges is based on marks secured in the final merit i.e. total marks aggregated in the final exams of 10+2 and the entrance exam.

B.Sc. (Hons.) Physics Course Suitability

  • They should be problem-solving, a pragmatic and analytical approach to problem-solving and use imagination and creativity to try new approaches to solve challenging problems.
  • They should have reasoning power to construct logical arguments, apply analytical skills and grasp complex problems.
  • Other skills are numeracy, communication, good knowledge of computer and team work spirit.
  • They should have problem solving and scientific reasoning skills, it is helpful for the prospective physics student to have a more general knowledge of how to tackle a problem and apply logical reasoning to arrive at a solution.

How is B.Sc. (Hons.) Physics Course Beneficial?

  • B.Sc. (Hons.) (Physics) degree serves as a basis for further higher studies in this field such as M.Sc., Ph.D. and M.Phil. Degree in Physics, the successful completion of which makes one eligible for the post of a lecturer in any university/college.
  • After completing the degree course they can pursue careers in a range of sectors such as IT and consultancy, the environmental industry, financial services, and the legal sector, transport and utilities.
  • They can become school teacher on private basis after it and lecturer after completing Master’s degree plus NET exam permanently.
