COURSE DESCRIPTION


B.Sc. (Hons.) Statistics or Bachelor of Science Honours in Statistics is an undergraduate Statistics course. Statistics is the study of the collection, organization, and interpretation of data. B.Sc. (Hons.) degree course deals with all aspects of this, including the planning of data collection in terms of the design of surveys and experiments. B.Sc. (Hons.) Statistics is generally three academic year course and it may be provided on part time basis by certain institutes. The syllabus for the course is divided into three years and it is an important course in the field of economy that opens a lot career scopes for the candidates after its completion.


B.Sc. (Hons.) Statistics Eligibility

  • The candidates should complete their 10+2 or its equivalent exam in Science stream.
  • The marks of admission for this course may vary from college to college.

B.Sc. (Hons.) Statistics Course Suitability

  • They should have good reasoning ability, persistence and the ability to apply principles to new types of problems. 
  • They should have a mathematical bent of mind, able to reason logically, flexible and have a curious and disciplined mind.
  • They should have good verbal and writing skills, intellectual creativity, patience & persistence, attention to detail, problem-solving skills, logic, and ability to take decisions independently.
  • Candidates willing to go for teaching fields at higher degree level i.e. college and university level both in private and government institutions also are suitable match for it.

How is B.Sc. (Hons.) Statistics Course Beneficial?

  • The degree course prepares the students for the Indian Statistical Services, Indian Economic Services as well as Civil Services exams.
  • They can get jobs in the government departments where they conduct experiments on consumer prices, fluctuations in the economy, employment patterns, population trends etc and aid in the development of public policy and legislations.
  • They can go for scientific research where they can work as wildlife statisticians to help and collect data on the various animal populations and try to design strategies to protect endangered species.
  • The graduation degree course provides good base for higher degree program in respective subjects, e.g. Masters’ degree, etc.
