COURSE DESCRIPTION


B.Tech. Bioinformatics or Bachelor of Technology in Bioinformatics is an undergraduate Bioinformatics course. Bioinformatics is the application of computer science and information technology to the field of biology and medicine. There are many topics such algorithms, databases and information systems, web technologies, artificial intelligence and soft computing, information and computation theory, software engineering, data mining, image processing, modelling and simulation, signal processing, discrete mathematics, control and system theory, circuit theory, and statistics. The duration of the course is four years and the syllabus is divided into eight semesters. The course is an important and job orienting in nature; after completing or during the fourth year candidates are recruited through campus placements by many reputed companies.


B.Tech. Bioinformatics Eligibility :-

  • A pass in the Higher Secondary Course (10+2) or any other examination recognized as equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology taken together with 50% marks for general category and 40% for reserved category.

B.Tech. Bioinformatics Course Suitability

  • Those who want to pursue their Master’s degree after it are suitable for it.
  • They should have good communication and interpersonal skills along with good computer skills.
  •  Those who innovative mind and good analytical power also are suitable for the course.
  • They should also possess skills like analysis and data exploitation, training and tool and resource development.

  • They can go for the specific career areas are Drug design utilizing 3-D structure modelling and computational chemistry (Chem-informatics), Comparing genetic data between and within species (Genomics), Genomic analysis in an attempt to find drug targets (Pharmaco-genomics), Characterization of proteins and their interactions (Proteomics), Prediction of the function of genes and proteins based on sequence and structural data etc.
  • They can also find work in Pharmaceutical and Biotech Companies where bioinformatics technologies are applied throughout the drug discovery process.
  • One can also take up teaching jobs in public institutions if you have a skill in teaching.
