COURSE DESCRIPTION


M.Sc. Bioinformatics or Master of Science in Bioinformatics is a post graduate Bioinformatics course. Bioinformatics is the application of statistics and computer science to the field of molecular biology. The program provides competence in computational biology/bioinformatics by providing training in the areas of molecular biology, information technology, statistics and bioinformatics. The program provides hands on expertise in the essential multi-disciplinary fields of genomics, proteomics, protein engineering, metabolic pathway engineering, Pharmacogenomics, discovery of new drugs and vaccines, molecular diagnostic kits, Agro-biotechnology that comprise the core of Bioinformatics. The duration of the course is two years and its syllabus is divided into four semesters.


M.Sc. Bioinformatics Eligibility

  • A student should have Bachelor’s Degree with minimum 50% with-
  • (i) B.Sc. (Biotechnology/Microbiology/Biochemistry/Zoology/Botany/Chemistry/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Science).
  • (ii) B. Pharm.
  • (iii) MBBS
  • (iv) BDS
  • (v) BAMS
  • (vi) BHMS
  • (vii) B.E. in Computer Science or Information technology or Biomedical Engineering will be considered eligible for admission to M.Sc. Bioinformatics course.
  • Students will be admitted to M.Sc. Bioinformatics course through Central Entrance Test.

M.Sc. Bioinformatics Course Suitability

  • The Master degree course is suitable for graduates with diverse backgrounds in computer sciences and information technology as well as industrial workers, entrepreneurs and scientific personnel engaged in teaching and research.
  • Those who want to become teacher/lecturer in schools and colleges respectively; for becoming college lecturer they have to pass UGC-NET exam.
  • They should have computer skills which help biologists to develop a structured approach to biological data as well as the tools they'll need to analyze the data.
